Guardian Program

MTD wants to protect the future of authentic Australian Labradoodle and maintain top quality of our breeding program. We would love to keep all of our doodles with us however, there is just not enough time in the day to give them the attention, care, and training they need. Therefore, we feel that Guardian Families are best equipped to give our potential breeding doodles the best possible start in life. The Guardian Families raise our potential breeding puppies and once they are retired from our program, they keep their doodles as family companions.

There are many families that are willing and able to provide the regular health care, safety, and training to our beautiful puppies that would be part of our program, but that may have difficulty with the up-front startup costs. This is where potential Guardian Families come in. If you meet the Guardian Family requirements, please contact us today to start the approval process and become a Guardian Parent.

Requirements necessary to join our guardian program:

  1. Afford to provide required high quality grain-free food, such as “Nulo”

  2. Own your own home and have a secure fenced yard

  3. Have a car for transportation

  4. Prior experience dog ownership is a must

  5. Provide ample exercise opportunities for the dog

  6. You must be committed to providing socialization and basic obedience skills

  7. Afford to provide heartworm/flea/tick prevention, as well as regular vet checks, including vaccines

  8. Live within 60 miles of San Antonio and do not intend to move for the next 5 years

  9. Be available to drive dog to and from our home for breeding and whelping

  10. Keep us updated on the dog’s progress and updates via texts/email

  11. Be willing to socialize the puppy by taking it everywhere possible and showing him/her life in general

  12. Afford to keep the dog groomed properly and check with us if any major changes need to be made (this means outside of a normal doodle coat)

  13. You can not own any intact dogs or have our Labradoodle around other intact dog

If you have chosen a female, she will need to be taken to the vet when she comes into heat for various hormone tests and for breeding. We will handle all of the scheduling and expenses but you must have the flexibility and means to get her to the appointments. *The Guardian Family only pays for normal veterinary care in addition to food, treats, toys, etc, for the duration the dog partakes in our breeding program.

You only will need to notify us at the first sign of her heat cycle. When she is pregnant we will provide any supplements or vitamins and take her to any vet visits. When she is approximately one week away from her due date she will come and stay with us through her delivery and until she has weaned her puppies at around 6 weeks of age. Then she will return home to you. At the end of her breeding career your $500 payment will be due and she will be forever yours. *You will need to provide a proof that the dog was spayed.

If your pet is a male breeder, his time away from you will be much shorter. When his time comes to retire your $500 payment will be due and he will be forever yours. *You will need to provide a proof that the dog was neutered.

This is a brief overview of the Mission Trail Australian Labradoodle Guardian Program. If you feel you meet the above criteria and would like to be considered for our Guardian Program, please fill out the Guardian Program application so that we may speak further.
